Who is covered and not covered?

Who is covered?

  1. Any Employee working under a contract of service with an Employer
  2. Local and foreign Employees
  3. An Employee that is employed under the following terms:
    1. Full-time
    2. Part-time
    3. Temporary
    4. Contract
  4. An Employee that is paid on the following basis:
    1. Hourly
    2. Daily
    3. Monthly
    4. Piece-rated
Note:
If an employee works less than 35 hours a week, he/she is considered a part-time employee covered by the Employment of Part-Time Employees Regulations.

Who is not covered?

  1. Seafarer
  2. Domestic worker
  3. Statutory board Employee or Civil Servant

Since 1 April 2019, managers and executives earning above $4,500/month are covered under the Employment Act and are entitled to core provisions of the Employment Act, such as:

  • Minimum 7-14 days paid annual leave
  • Paid public holidays and sick leave
  • Timely payment of salary
  • Protection against wrongful dismissal
